USER-CENTRED DESIGN
User-centred design is an approach that prioritises the needs, preferences, and experiences of the people who will inhabit or interact with a designed space. It involves engaging with end-users, stakeholders, and the community to inform and guide the design process, ensuring that the built environment is not only functional but also truly responsive to the social, cultural, and psychological aspects of its users.
User-centred design can lead to environments that are better aligned with the values and aspirations of the community, fostering a sense of belonging and ownership. By incorporating the voices and perspectives of the people who will use the space, it results in designs that are more intuitive, comfortable, and aesthetically pleasing, ultimately enhancing the quality of life for those affected.
This approach also plays a pivotal role in creating more inclusive and equitable spaces. It allows for the consideration of diverse needs and abilities, supporting universal accessibility and social equity. Furthermore, by engaging the community in the design process, it fosters a sense of empowerment and active participation, strengthening the social fabric of neighbourhoods and communities.
